Motherhood
The early days of motherhood are tender, messy, emotional, and fleeting.
They don’t need fixing, posing, or perfect light. They simply deserve to be remembered.
I photograph maternity and newborn sessions in a gentle, unhurried way, focusing on connection, feeling, and the quiet moments that often pass unnoticed at the time. The tiny details, the pauses, the way this season feels, captured honestly, in a way that will matter more as time goes on.
This is not about performing for the camera.
It’s about documenting your story, exactly as it is right now.
My approach to Motherhood photography
Motherhood sessions with me are calm, baby-led, and centred around real life.
I work slowly and intuitively, allowing space for feeds, cuddles, nappy changes, tears, laughter, and rest. There’s no expectation for your baby to behave a certain way or for you to feel “ready”. Everything unfolds at its own pace.
Most sessions take place in your home or a familiar outdoor space, using natural light and gentle guidance rather than stiff posing. I’ll quietly direct when needed, but the focus is always on connection rather than perfection.
If you’re worried about:
your baby crying
feeling tired or emotional
your home not being “photo ready”
not knowing what to do in front of the camera
Please know that all of that is expected, normal, and welcome here.
You don’t need to prepare anything beyond showing up as you are.
I’ll take care of the rest.
Kind words
“I was really nervous about a newborn shoot, especially with a grizzly baby and our naughty dog, but Jo was so patient and calm throughout.
She guided us gently without it ever feeling forced, and the whole experience was far more relaxed than we expected.
The photos are natural, beautiful, and something we’ll truly cherish forever.”
— Tia“Jo photographed my journey from pregnancy through to newborn, and the experience was incredible from start to finish.
Being photographed doesn’t usually feel comfortable for me, especially during such a vulnerable time, but Jo made me feel completely at ease.
The images she’s captured mean so much to us, and I can’t wait to book her again.”

Motherhood doesn’t fit neatly into boxes, but most people find themselves in one of two key chapters. I offer two simple, storytelling sessions to honour this season, each approached with the same gentle, baby-led care.
Maternity Storytelling Session
A relaxed session focused on anticipation, connection, and the quiet in-between moments of pregnancy.
Whether we photograph you at home or outdoors in soft natural light, maternity sessions are slow and intuitive. There’s no pressure to pose or perform — just space to pause and mark this fleeting chapter before everything changes.
These sessions are usually booked during the second or early third trimester, when you’re feeling comfortable and your bump is beautifully present.
Newborn Storytelling Session
A calm, baby-led session held in the comfort of your home, centred around your baby exactly as they are.
Newborn sessions are unhurried and flexible, with time for feeds, cuddles, settling, and breaks whenever they’re needed. I focus on connection rather than perfection — the tiny details, the closeness, and the way these early days feel before they blur into memory.
There’s no strict schedule and no expectation for your baby to sleep. Every newborn is different, and the session flows around them.
Bump-to-Baby Package
If you’d like one consistent storyteller from pregnancy through to those early newborn days, I also offer a Bump-to-Baby package, combining both sessions in a single, thoughtful journey.
This option is ideal if you’d like your images to flow seamlessly from anticipation to arrival, with a little saving built in.
This can be booked once you’ve explored the maternity and newborn sessions.
You can view a small selection of maternity and newborn work in my portfolio.
How it works
Once you enquire, I’ll guide you through booking with a clear contract and retainer to secure your date. After that, you’ll receive a short questionnaire so I can get to know you, your story, and what feels important to you right now.
I’ll also share a private Pinterest board and a simple session guide with gentle styling ideas and reassurance about what to expect.
There’s no pressure to plan or prepare perfectly. This is just a way for us to feel creatively aligned.
Before your session
Sessions are slow, baby-led, and entirely shaped around you.
There’s always time for feeds, cuddles, changes, pauses, and rest. I’ll gently guide you when needed, but mostly I’ll give you space to simply be together. You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about what your baby is doing — everything unfolds naturally.
Whether we’re photographing pregnancy or those early newborn days, the focus is always on connection, not performance.
During your session
After your session, I carefully curate and edit your images, focusing on the moments that best tell your story. Your gallery is delivered within 2–4 weeks, ready to download and revisit whenever you like.
Each session includes a thoughtfully curated selection of images, with the option to upgrade and keep the full gallery if you’d love more. There’s no pressure either way — your included images always stand beautifully on their own.
From booking to delivery, my aim is for the experience to feel calm, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable.
After your session
Galleries & delivery
I believe your images should feel complete, intentional, and true to your story - not rushed or overwhelming.
After your session, I carefully curate your gallery, selecting the images that best reflect the connection, emotion, and small in-between moments that matter most. This means you receive a thoughtful collection rather than hundreds of near-duplicates to sort through.
Each motherhood session includes a set number of fully edited images, delivered in a private online gallery within 2 - 4 weeks. Your gallery is ready to download, share, and return to whenever you like.
If, once you’ve viewed your gallery, you find yourself drawn to more moments, there is an optional upgrade to unlock the full gallery. This is entirely your choice - many families are perfectly happy with the included images, while others love having the complete story to keep.
There’s no pressure either way. My aim is always for you to receive a collection of images that feels meaningful, finished, and easy to enjoy.
When to book & practical notes
Maternity sessions are usually best booked during your second or early third trimester. This gives us flexibility with dates and ensures your bump is beautifully present while you’re still feeling comfortable.
Newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first few weeks after birth, but I don’t work to a strict age limit. Babies arrive in their own time, and sessions are always planned with flexibility built in.
If you’re unsure about timing, you’re very welcome to get in touch - I’m always happy to talk it through.
When to book
Most motherhood sessions take place in your home or a familiar outdoor space, using natural light and a relaxed, unhurried approach.
I’m based in South Wales and photograph sessions across the region. Travel beyond this area can usually be arranged - just let me know where you’re based when you enquire.
Sessions can take place on weekdays or weekends, depending on availability. I keep my diary intentionally limited so I can give each family the time and care they deserve.
Location & availability
There’s no need for your home to be perfect, your baby to be settled, or you to feel camera-ready. Real life is expected here, and that’s where the most meaningful photographs are made.
A gentle note
Gentle reassurance
If you’re feeling unsure or a little nervous, you’re not alone. These are some of the questions I hear most often.
-
That’s absolutely okay. Babies cry, feed, wriggle, and need comfort — all of that is part of real life. Sessions are always baby-led, with plenty of time for cuddles and pauses. There’s no expectation for your baby to sleep or behave in a certain way.
-
You don’t need to know what to do. I’ll gently guide you where needed, but there’s no posing or pressure to perform. Most people tell me they felt far more relaxed than they expected — often forgetting the camera was even there.
-
Your home doesn’t need to be perfect. I work with natural light and real spaces, focusing on connection rather than surroundings. A small corner of light is more than enough.
-
That’s completely welcome here. Motherhood is tender, intense, and full of feeling — especially in the early days. You don’t need to hold anything together for the camera. I’ll meet you exactly where you are.
-
That’s often when photographs matter the most. These sessions aren’t about capturing perfection — they’re about documenting a season honestly, so you can remember how it really felt.
Ready when you are
If this approach feels like a good fit for you, I’d love to hear from you.
Whether you’re in the early stages of pregnancy, waiting to meet your baby, or somewhere in between, you’re very welcome to get in touch. We can talk through timing, availability, and which session would suit you best — with no pressure and no expectation.
