Thinking About Booking a Documentary Wedding Photographer in South Wales? Here’s What to Expect

If you're planning your wedding in Cardiff, Newport, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Swansea or elsewhere in South Wales, you may already know one thing for certain:

You don’t want your day to feel like a photoshoot.

You want to be present.
You want natural photographs that feel like you.
And you don’t want to feel awkward in front of the camera.

Documentary wedding photography is designed exactly for that.

Here’s what it actually looks like to work with me.

1. First Enquiry: A Calm Conversation

When you enquire, I’ll send over my availability and full pricing guide so you have everything clearly in front of you.

If your date is available, we’ll arrange a relaxed call. It isn’t a sales call. It’s simply a chance for you to tell me about your plans and for us to see if we’re the right fit. If you’d prefer to do that via email or WhatsApp, that’s fine too.

You don’t need a finished timeline.
You don’t need to know how long portraits should take.
You just need your date and a rough outline of your day.

If it feels right, we move forward. If not, there’s no pressure.

2. Booking: Clear and Simple

To secure your date:

  • A signed contract

  • A 30% retainer

  • Final balance due 7–14 days before your wedding

That’s it.

No hidden extras. No complicated add-ons.

I take on a limited number of weddings each year so I can give every couple proper attention alongside my full-time job. Once your date is booked, it’s fully yours.

3. Before the Wedding: Support Without Overwhelm

In the months leading up to your wedding, I’m here if you need guidance.

Some couples choose to book an engagement session to feel more comfortable before the day. Others don’t. There’s no expectation either way.

Closer to your wedding, I’ll send a simple questionnaire to understand timings, family dynamics and what matters most to you.

My role isn’t to control your day.
It’s to support it calmly.

If your date is set and this approach feels like the right fit, you can check availability here.

4. On the Day: Calm, Observational, Present

You won’t spend your wedding being posed.

I’ll gently guide you when needed, especially during couple portraits, but most of the time I’m observing.

I watch for:

  • The way your hands find each other

  • Your mum’s expression during the ceremony

  • Your friends laughing during speeches

  • The quiet moments in between

If you’re worried about feeling awkward, you’re not alone. Almost every couple mentions it at first.

You don’t need to perform.
You don’t need to know what to do with your hands.
You just need to show up as yourselves.

What Couples Often Say

"We were so worried we’d feel awkward in front of the camera, but it never felt like we were being photographed. You just blended in and captured everything exactly as it happened."

That’s always the goal.

5. After the Wedding: What Happens Next

Within a few days, you’ll receive a small preview gallery so you can relive those first moments.

Your full gallery is delivered within 6–10 weeks.

Every image is carefully edited in my natural, true-to-life style. No heavy filters. No trends that will date.

Just honest moments, preserved well.

You can also view more full wedding galleries and coverage details on my wedding page.
